1. You rent Wix. You own WordPress.
A Wix site cannot leave Wix. There is no export that produces a working site, so ‘migrating off Wix’ means rebuilding from scratch. Every year on the platform deepens the lock-in. A WordPress site is portable: files and a database that move between hosts in an afternoon.
2. The SEO ceiling is real
Wix’s SEO has improved enormously and for local intent (‘plumber in Boise’) it competes fine. The ceiling shows in competitive organic markets: limited control over site architecture, slower pages at scale, no server-level tuning, and a content system that fights you past a few dozen pages. Businesses that win organic search do it with content volume and technical control that Wix wasn’t designed for.

When to switch
The switch conversation usually starts with one of three triggers: organic traffic has flatlined while competitors climb, the store needs features Wix can’t add, or the business raised its brand bar and the template look reads cheap next to competitors.
