Client snapshot
Eucerin is Beiersdorf’s dermocosmetic skincare brand, the kind you buy on a pharmacist’s recommendation, not off a supermarket shelf. That makes pharmacists the people who actually move the product. Keeping them fluent in a growing range, and engaged enough to recommend it at the counter, is a genuine marketing problem, and a static training PDF does not solve it. Eucerin wanted a program that would educate and reward pharmacists at the same time, and hold their attention long enough to matter.
What they needed
An incentive platform that combined product education with gamification. Pharmacists would learn about Eucerin lines, take part in challenges, earn points, climb a leaderboard, and win rewards, all on a schedule that ran for four months. The brief was less “build us a course” and more “build us a competition people want to come back to.” That meant a few things had to be true at once:
- It had to feel like an app, on a phone. Pharmacists are behind a counter, not at a desk. Everything had to be fast, installable, and thumb-friendly
- Learning and rewards in the same loop. Every challenge taught something and paid out points, so engagement and education pulled in the same direction
- A real scoreboard with real stakes. Monthly rewards for hitting a threshold, plus a final prize for the top performers across the whole campaign
- The client running it, not us. Eucerin's team had to be able to schedule challenges, grade creative entries, send notifications, and pull the winners list without a developer on call
How we built it
We designed the UX and UI and built it as a mobile-first, installable platform: pharmacists add it to the home screen and use it like a native app, and behind it sits a full admin panel where Eucerin’s team runs the whole campaign. The interesting engineering was never the shell, it was the rules underneath.
Six challenge types, each with its own logic
- Quizzes with a per-question timer and instant scoring
- Educational videos gated so the pharmacist has to watch the whole thing before answering the questions after it
- A visual product game that is all-or-nothing: sort the right products into the right slots past a set of decoys, and one wrong pick scores zero
- Creative uploads, where pharmacists submit their own photos and videos, using resumable uploads so a large video survives a shaky phone connection
- Product recommendations, a short written pitch for a chosen Eucerin product, scored by a human moderator
- A 24-hour "Joker" round that opens and closes at an exact time and appears only twice a month
Underneath all of that runs a scoring system with two independent tracks, challenge points and daily-login points, that get added together per cycle for the rewards report. Every point value lives in a single file, so when the client wanted to adjust the numbers, it was one change in one place, not a hunt through the codebase. Creative entries and written recommendations go through a moderation queue where Eucerin’s team awards bonus points for quality, and every upload lands in private storage with time-limited signed URLs, mirrored into a second bucket with human-readable names so the client can actually find a given pharmacy’s entry.
The campaign itself runs in three phases, a countdown before it opens, the active competition, and a wrap-up screen after it closes, switching automatically on the dates that matter and toggleable by hand from the admin panel. The admin side covers everything the client needs to run it alone: scheduling challenges and questions, managing pharmacy accounts, moderating entries, sending notifications, watching analytics, and exporting the monthly winners and the final leaderboard. There is even a support tool that lets an admin safely view the app exactly as a specific pharmacist sees it, for when someone calls in confused.
The outcome
The platform ran the full four-month campaign. Pharmacists learned the range by playing through it, points and leaderboards kept them coming back, and Eucerin’s team ran the day-to-day, scheduling, moderating, and pulling winners, without needing us in the loop. The brand got what it asked for: a bug-free product on the pharmacist’s phone, delivered on time.
Engagement you have to earn, four months of it, from busy professionals who could close the tab at any moment, is one of the harder things to build. It comes down to the mechanics being exactly right: points that add up fairly, timing windows that open to the second, moderation that stays fair at scale, an all-or-nothing rule that feels earned rather than punishing. Get those right and people keep coming back on their own, which is what they did across the four-month campaign.
