Client snapshot
Renovation Angel is a US company that buys and resells luxury pre-owned kitchens. Sellers reach out through the website with photos of the kitchen they want to sell, and those photos are what the team works from to assess and quote. If the photos do not arrive, there is no deal to have.
The challenge
This was not one problem, it was a site that had drifted. It had gone a long time without maintenance, the original developer was no longer around, and the client themselves were not fully sure how it had been put together. The code underneath was old and patched over, the kind of build where every change had been bolted onto the last one.
The inquiry came in as a list: the site was slow, some pages had aged badly and needed a redesign, the filters for browsing kitchens were broken, and the team had no way to edit large parts of the site because the content was hardcoded straight into the PHP. And underneath all of it, the problem that was actually costing them money: inquiry forms worked, but the photos sellers attached never made it to the team, not to the CRM they used, and not to email.
The diagnosis that mattered
The obvious assumption was a form bug. It was not. We traced the flow end to end, then went to the source and contacted the vendor of the third-party CRM the client used to collect inquiries. They confirmed it directly: their system had never been able to accept image attachments at all. It was not misconfigured, it was not our forms, it was a hard limit of the platform on the other side.
That reframed the fix entirely. There was no setting to flip. So we wrote a custom solution that intercepts the images from each inquiry and sends them separately by email, alongside the lead the CRM does capture. The team now gets the full picture on every inquiry, the way they always should have.
Everything else on the list
- Speed. Optimized the site and lifted its PageSpeed, so it was no longer slow to load
- Redesign. Reworked the pages that had aged worst, so the site looked current again
- Broken filters. Diagnosed and fixed the kitchen filters so buyers could actually browse the inventory
- Hardcoded content. The copy, and even the forms, were locked in PHP. We opened up what we could and, where things stayed in code, we taught the team exactly how and where to change the text safely themselves
- Knowledge transfer. Because no one on the client side fully knew how the site was built, we reverse-engineered it and walked the team through how to use and edit the sections they need day to day
The outcome
Every inquiry now reaches the team with its photos attached, which is the difference between a lead and a dead end for this business. The site is faster, the pages that embarrassed them are redesigned, the filters work, and the team can run and edit the site without a developer sitting between them and their own content.
The real work here was not writing the fix, it was finding the truth. Most vendors would have spent weeks debugging a form that was never the problem. We took the harder step of proving where the fault actually lived, on the far side of an integration nobody had questioned, and then built around it.
